Morning Prayer for October 1
My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.
God’s Word
The fruit of the Spirit is love
Today’s takeaway: Self-control is part of the Spirit's fruit, so live soberly and ready for Jesus.
Every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.
Be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit
If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
Let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. But let us, who are of the day, be sober
Denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ
Prayer
Father, an athlete controls himself in everything to win a crown that fades, and I am running for one that never will. Help me keep my body under control today. Do not let me be filled with wine or anything else that takes over, but fill me with Your Spirit. I deny myself and take up my cross to follow Jesus. Keep me sober, watchful, and godly. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Pray as Jesus taught us
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Amen.
Blessing
The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
