Evening Prayer for October 1

About 2–3 minutes · 7 Scripture passages (KJV)

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

God’s Word

Grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ

Today’s takeaway: Keep growing toward Christ, and do not measure yourself against other people.

First the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear.

Till we all come … the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ

They measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.

But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.

The body is of Christ. Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.

Grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Before you pray

In what small way did you grow toward Christ this week?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, I want to grow up into You in all things. Growth comes slowly: first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain. Keep me from measuring myself against others; that is not wise. Let me glory only in You. You are the head, and the whole body grows from You. Help me grow in grace and in the knowledge of You. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray as Jesus taught us

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Amen.

Blessing

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
