Morning Prayer for January 5

About 2–3 minutes · 8 Scripture passages (KJV)

My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.

God’s Word

We which have believed do enter into rest

Today’s takeaway: Real rest comes from trusting Christ's finished work instead of struggling in your own strength.

Weary themselves to commit iniquity.

I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

He that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works

Not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith

This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing

Prayer

Lord Jesus, You invite everyone who is weary to come to You for rest, and I come. I have worn myself out trying to earn what You give freely. I have peace with God through You, not through my own righteousness. Let me stop striving today and enter the rest of those who believe. Let my work flow from that rest. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray as Jesus taught us

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Amen.

Blessing

The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
