Morning Prayer for August 4

About 2–3 minutes · 7 Scripture passages (KJV)

My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.

God’s Word

It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

Today’s takeaway: Jesus finished the work of salvation on the cross, and nothing needs to be added.

Jesus the author and finisher of our faith

I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.

We are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross

I lay down my life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again.

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, on the cross You said, It is finished. You finished the work the Father gave You, and there is nothing left for me to add. This morning let me stop trying to earn what You have already done. Let me work today out of rest, not out of fear, because Your work for me is complete. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray as Jesus taught us

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Amen.

Blessing

The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
