Evening Prayer for September 2

About 2–3 minutes · 8 Scripture passages (KJV)

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

God’s Word

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures

Today’s takeaway: Rest in the Shepherd's care tonight, and let His love, not every new idea, steady you.

The wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, … There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked.

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Rest in the LORD

He that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works

Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace

That … be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ

I sat down under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit was sweet to my taste. He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me was love.

Before you pray

What kept you from resting in the LORD today?

Prayer

Good Shepherd, You make me lie down in green pastures. The wicked are like the troubled sea that cannot rest, but You give rest to those who are weary and heavy laden. Tonight I cease from my own works and rest in You. Keep my heart established by grace and not tossed about by every wind. I sit down under Your shadow with great delight. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray as Jesus taught us

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Amen.

Blessing

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
