Evening Prayer for October 20
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
God’s Word
The LORD thy God accept thee.
Today’s takeaway: You cannot earn God's acceptance, but in Christ you are fully accepted.
Wherewith shall I come before the LORD, and bow myself before the high God? shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves of a year old? Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, or with ten thousands of rivers of oil? shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?
We are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags
There is none righteous, no, not one
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare … at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
Accepted in the beloved.
Ye are complete in him
Before you pray
What are you trying to bring to God tonight to make yourself acceptable?
Prayer
LORD, with what shall I come before You? Not with thousands of rams or rivers of oil. All my righteousness is like filthy rags, and there is none righteous, not one. But I am justified freely by Your grace through the redemption in Christ Jesus. I am accepted in the Beloved and complete in Him. That is how I come tonight. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Pray as Jesus taught us
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Amen.
Blessing
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
