Evening Prayer for October 2
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
God’s Word
Who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive?
Today’s takeaway: Everything good in you is a gift of God's grace, so there is nothing to boast about.
By the grace of God I am what I am
Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth
It is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.
Where is boasting then? It is excluded.
Christ Jesus, … is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: … He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
You hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
Ye are washed, … ye are sanctified, … ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
Before you pray
What do you have tonight that you did not receive from God?
Prayer
Father, what do I have that I did not receive? By Your grace I am what I am. You gave me new life by Your own will through the word of truth. Boasting is excluded. I was dead in sins, and now I am washed, sanctified, and justified. All the glory is Yours. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Pray as Jesus taught us
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Amen.
Blessing
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
