Evening Prayer for October 16

About 2–3 minutes · 9 Scripture passages (KJV)

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

God’s Word

Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil

Today’s takeaway: God can keep you from temptation and make you stand, so do not trust your own heart.

He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered.

Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you

Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, … even as the garden of the LORD, … Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan

But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD exceedingly.

Delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked

The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations

Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.

Before you pray

Where do you need God to deliver you from temptation?

Prayer

Father, lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Lot chose Sodom because it looked good, and it vexed his soul. I know the places where I am most easily drawn away. Keep me out of them tomorrow. You know how to deliver the godly out of temptation, and You are able to make me stand. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray as Jesus taught us

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Amen.

Blessing

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
