Evening Prayer for November 22

About 2–3 minutes · 8 Scripture passages (KJV)

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

God’s Word

There is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease.

Today’s takeaway: Like a cut-down tree that sprouts again, God can restore you after hard times.

A bruised reed shall he not break

He restoreth my soul

Godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

No chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept thy word.

After all that is come upon us for our evil deeds, and for our great trespass, seeing that thou our God hast punished us less than our iniquities deserve, and hast given us such deliverance as this

Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be a light unto me. … he will bring me forth to the light, and I shall behold his righteousness.

Before you pray

What in your life feels cut down that God can make sprout again?

Prayer

Lord, there is hope for a tree that is cut down; it will sprout again. You will not break a bruised reed. You restore my soul. Godly sorrow leads to repentance and life. Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I keep Your word. You have punished us less than our sins deserved. When I fall, I will rise again. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray as Jesus taught us

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Amen.

Blessing

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
