Evening Prayer for May 6

About 2–3 minutes · 7 Scripture passages (KJV)

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

God’s Word

How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come?

Today’s takeaway: Because Jesus rose, God will raise His people with bodies like His glorious body.

Beloved, now are we the sons of God, … it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

As we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.

The Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: … shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.

Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.

He was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once

If the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

Before you pray

What difference does the resurrection of Jesus make to how you face tomorrow?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, after You rose, You stood among Your frightened disciples and spoke peace. More than five hundred people saw You alive. Tonight I feel the weakness of my body, and I am glad that one day You will change it to be like Yours. The same Spirit who raised You lives in me. Give me peace as I sleep. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray as Jesus taught us

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Amen.

Blessing

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
