Evening Prayer for May 5
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
God’s Word
He spread a cloud for a covering; and fire to give light in the night.
Today’s takeaway: God covered Israel by day and lit their way by night, and He watches over you still.
Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him. For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.
The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.
There shall be a tabernacle for a shadow in the daytime from the heat, and for a place of refuge, and for a covert from storm and from rain.
The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand.
The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.
The LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night: He took not away the pillar of the cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people.
Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
Before you pray
How did the Lord keep you today in ways you may not have noticed?
Prayer
LORD, You are my keeper and my shade. You spread a cloud over Israel by day and gave them fire for light at night, and You never took either one away. You pity Your children like a father, and You remember that we are dust. Preserve my going out and my coming in, tonight and always. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Pray as Jesus taught us
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Amen.
Blessing
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
