Evening Prayer for May 4
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
God’s Word
I have glorified thee on the earth
Today’s takeaway: Jesus finished the work the Father gave Him, and He lived every day for God's glory.
My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.
I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.
Wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business? And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them.
This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.
Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?
Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.
Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.
All bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth.
Thou art worthy … for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.
Before you pray
Did you do the Father's business today, or only your own?
Prayer
Father, Jesus said His food was to do Your will and finish Your work. He glorified You on the earth. He grew in favor with God and man, and people marveled at His gracious words. I did not do everything well today, but I want my life to glorify You as His did. Tomorrow, let me be about my Father's business. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Pray as Jesus taught us
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Amen.
Blessing
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
