Evening Prayer for May 31

About 2–3 minutes · 8 Scripture passages (KJV)

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

God’s Word

Little children, abide in him

Today’s takeaway: Stay rooted in Christ and His gospel, and do not be carried away by anything else.

He that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; … though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.

Ye did run well; who did hinder you

As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

Before you pray

What has been pulling you away from simply trusting Christ?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, I want to abide in You. Paul told the Galatians that they had been running well, and then asked who had hindered them. Keep me from drifting away from grace into trying to earn Your favor. A branch cannot bear fruit on its own, and neither can I. Let Your words abide in me. All of God's promises are yes in You. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray as Jesus taught us

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Amen.

Blessing

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
