Evening Prayer for May 17

About 2–3 minutes · 7 Scripture passages (KJV)

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

God’s Word

I have exalted one chosen out of the people.

Today’s takeaway: Jesus became fully human like us, and God has lifted Him above every name.

Verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham. Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren

Upon the likeness of the throne was the likeness as the appearance of a man above upon it.

The Son of man … which is in heaven.

Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.

Made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow

Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God.

Before you pray

What comfort does it give you that a real Man sits on heaven's throne?

Prayer

Father, there is a Man on the throne of heaven. Your Son became one of us, and after He rose, He showed His disciples His hands and feet. He understands me, and He reigns. Tonight I bring Him the things I thought no one could understand. I am glad I am known. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray as Jesus taught us

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Amen.

Blessing

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
