Evening Prayer for May 13

About 2–3 minutes · 8 Scripture passages (KJV)

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

God’s Word

My heart panteth, my strength faileth me

Today’s takeaway: When your strength fails, God's grace is enough and His arms are underneath you.

Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

He said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. … for when I am weak, then am I strong.

When Peter … saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.

He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.

The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms

Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power

Before you pray

Where are you running out of strength, and will you tell God honestly?

Prayer

O God, my heart pounds and my strength fails me tonight. Hear my cry. When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the rock that is higher than I am. Peter cried out as he began to sink, and Jesus caught him right away. You give power to the faint. Your grace is sufficient for me. Underneath me are the everlasting arms. I rest in them. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray as Jesus taught us

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Amen.

Blessing

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
