Evening Prayer for May 12
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
God’s Word
Reproach hath broken my heart
Today’s takeaway: Jesus was slandered and insulted, so do not be surprised when you are treated unfairly.
Is not this the carpenter’s son?
Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth?
Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil?
He casteth out devils through the prince of the devils.
We know that this man is a sinner.
He deceiveth the people.
This man blasphemeth.
Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners.
It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord.
This is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully.
For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that … should follow his steps: Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously
If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye
Before you pray
Were you criticized or misunderstood today, and what did you do with it?
Prayer
Father, they called Your Son a deceiver, a glutton, a friend of sinners, even demon-possessed. If they called the Master these things, I should not be surprised when I am misunderstood. When I suffer wrongly, let me take it patiently, like Jesus, who did not answer insult with insult. If I am insulted for His name, I am blessed. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Pray as Jesus taught us
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Amen.
Blessing
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
