Evening Prayer for June 23

About 2–3 minutes · 9 Scripture passages (KJV)

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

God’s Word

Shall I not seek rest for thee, that it may be well with thee?

Today’s takeaway: Jesus is the rest your weary soul is looking for, so come to Him tonight.

There remaineth … a rest to the people of God.

My people shall dwell in a peaceable habitation, and in sure dwellings, and in quiet resting places

There the wicked cease from troubling; and there the weary be at rest.

They … rest from their labours

The forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

Before you pray

What would real rest look like for you tomorrow?

Prayer

Father, Naomi wanted to find rest for Ruth, that it might be well with her. You want that for me too. Jesus invites all who are weary and heavy laden to come to Him for rest. In returning and rest I am saved; in quietness and confidence is my strength. Jesus has already gone ahead of me into heaven. Make me lie down tonight. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray as Jesus taught us

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Amen.

Blessing

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
