Evening Prayer for June 21
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
God’s Word
I sought him, but I could not find him; I called him, but he gave me no answer.
Today’s takeaway: If God seems silent, ask Him to show you any sin that stands in the way.
O Lord, what shall I say, when Israel turneth their backs before their enemies!
And the LORD said unto Joshua, Get thee up; wherefore liest thou thus upon thy face? Israel hath sinned, … for they have even taken of the accursed thing, … and they have put it even among their own stuff.
Behold, the LORD’S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.
If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me
Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God. And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
Before you pray
Is anything in your heart hindering your prayers?
Prayer
Lord, after Israel's defeat, Joshua fell on his face, and You told him to get up, because there was sin in the camp. Your hand is not too short to save. If my prayers feel unanswered, show me whether I am holding on to anything that grieves You. I want a heart that does not condemn me, so I can come to You with confidence. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Pray as Jesus taught us
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Amen.
Blessing
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
