Evening Prayer for June 20

About 2–3 minutes · 7 Scripture passages (KJV)

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

God’s Word

Thou compassest my path and my lying down

Today’s takeaway: God surrounds your lying down, so you can sleep in peace under His care.

Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not. And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.

The eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him.

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.

Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.

So he giveth his beloved sleep.

Before you pray

What can you leave with the Lord so you can sleep in peace?

Prayer

LORD, You surround my path and my lying down. Jacob woke from sleep and knew You had been with him all night. You are in this place tonight. You have made the Most High my dwelling, and You give Your angels charge over me. When I lie down, I will not be afraid; my sleep will be sweet. You give Your beloved sleep. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray as Jesus taught us

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Amen.

Blessing

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
