Evening Prayer for July 5

About 2–3 minutes · 7 Scripture passages (KJV)

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

God’s Word

Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate.

Today’s takeaway: Treat humble and poor people with honor, because God has chosen the lowly.

My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.

Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?

Let no man seek his own, but every man another’s wealth.

Having food and raiment let us be therewith content. But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.

God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence.

LORD, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty

Prayer

Lord, forgive me for any way I favored people today because of their money, looks, or status. You have chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith. You choose the foolish and the weak so that no one can boast before You. Keep my heart from pride and my eyes from looking down on others. Teach me to be content. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray as Jesus taught us

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Amen.

Blessing

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
