Evening Prayer for July 4

About 2–3 minutes · 6 Scripture passages (KJV)

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

God’s Word

Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins

Today’s takeaway: There is forgiveness with God, and Jesus Himself is the sacrifice that covers your sins.

Toward the mercy seat shall the faces of the cherubims be. And thou shalt put the mercy seat above upon the ark; and in the ark thou shalt put the testimony that I shall give thee. And there I will meet with thee, and I will commune with thee from above the mercy seat

Surely his salvation is nigh them that fear him; … Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.

If thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand? But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared.

Let Israel hope in the LORD: for with the LORD there is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption. And he shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities.

All have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins

Before you pray

What would it mean to go to sleep tonight fully forgiven?

Prayer

O LORD, if You kept a record of iniquities, who could stand? But there is forgiveness with You. Jesus Christ the righteous is my advocate. Tonight I tell You plainly where I sinned today. I do not have to hide it or defend myself. Wash me, and let me rest in the mercy that has met truth at the cross. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray as Jesus taught us

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Amen.

Blessing

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
