Evening Prayer for July 16

About 2–3 minutes · 8 Scripture passages (KJV)

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

God’s Word

We made our prayer unto our God, and set a watch against them

Today’s takeaway: Pray and also keep watch, then move forward and do what God asks.

Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation

Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving

Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith

Why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

Be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Before you pray

Did you pray about something today and then fail to act on it?

Prayer

Father, Nehemiah prayed and then set a watch. Jesus told us to watch and pray. Sometimes You tell me to stop crying out and go forward, as You told Moses at the Red Sea. Why do I call You Lord and not do what You say? Make me a doer of the word. Tonight I cast my cares on You, and tomorrow I will obey. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray as Jesus taught us

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Amen.

Blessing

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
