Evening Prayer for July 15
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
God’s Word
The ear trieth words, as the mouth tasteth meat.
Today’s takeaway: Test what you hear by God's Word, and follow only the voice of the Good Shepherd.
Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.
I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom
He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith
He that is spiritual judgeth all things
Take heed what ye hear
I know thy works, … and how … thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars
Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
He calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.
Before you pray
Did anything you heard today pull you away from the truth?
Prayer
Good Shepherd, Your sheep know Your voice, and they will not follow a stranger. Tonight I think back over everything I heard today. Help me test the spirits and prove all things, holding fast to what is good. Let me not judge by appearance. Let Your word dwell in me richly, so I can tell Your voice from all the others. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Pray as Jesus taught us
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Amen.
Blessing
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
