Evening Prayer for January 28

About 2–3 minutes · 8 Scripture passages (KJV)

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

God’s Word

Awake, O north wind; and … blow upon my garden, that the spices thereof may flow out.

Today’s takeaway: God uses hard winds to bring out sweetness in your life, and He tempers every trial.

No chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

The fruit of the Spirit

He stayeth his rough wind in the day of the east wind.

Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him.

Though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen

Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered

In all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

Before you pray

What hard wind blew through your life today, and what fruit might it bring?

Prayer

Father, sometimes You let the north wind blow on my garden so the fragrance can come out. I feel that wind in my life right now. I do not enjoy it, but I trust that You hold back what would be too much. You pity me like a father. Renew me inwardly while I sleep, and let something sweet come out of this season. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray as Jesus taught us

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Amen.

Blessing

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
