Evening Prayer for January 27
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
God’s Word
I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life
Today’s takeaway: God sets life before you and takes no pleasure in anyone's loss, so choose Him.
For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye.
If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloke for their sin.
That servant, which knew his lord’s will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.
The wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.
Before you pray
What choice today was a choice for life with God?
Prayer
Lord GOD, You set before me life and death, and You tell me to choose life. Today I made many small choices, and not all of them chose You. Tonight I choose Jesus again. Show me one habit that is quietly leading me away from life, and give me the courage to turn from it tomorrow. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Pray as Jesus taught us
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Amen.
Blessing
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
