Evening Prayer for January 19

About 2–3 minutes · 13 Scripture passages (KJV)

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

God’s Word

We have turned every one to his own way

Today’s takeaway: Even the heroes of faith sinned, and like them you are saved by grace alone.

Noah … planted a vineyard: And he drank of the wine, and was drunken

Abram … said unto Sarai his wife

Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister: that it may be well with me for thy sake

Isaac said unto Jacob

Art thou my very son Esau? And he said, I am.

Moses … spake unadvisedly with his lips.

The men took of their victuals, and asked not counsel at the mouth of the LORD. And Joshua made peace with them

David did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, and turned not aside from any thing that he commanded him all the days of his life, save only in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.

These all, … obtained a good report through faith

Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus

The LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

Not for your sakes do I this, saith the Lord GOD, be it known unto you: be ashamed and confounded for your own ways

Before you pray

Where did you go your own way today instead of God's?

Prayer

Lord, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, and Moses all stumbled, and so did I today. I went my own way in ways I can name. Yet You counted them faithful, because You justify freely by grace. I confess my own way to You tonight. Thank You that You laid it on Jesus. Let me wake up tomorrow wanting Your way more. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray as Jesus taught us

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Amen.

Blessing

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
