Evening Prayer for January 16
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
God’s Word
Write the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter
Today’s takeaway: The gospel rests on what eyewitnesses saw and heard, not on clever stories.
Holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have. And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet.
He that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe.
We have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

Prayer
Lord, the apostles wrote what they saw with their own eyes and touched with their hands. My faith does not rest on clever stories. When doubts come to me at night, let me remember that Jesus showed His hands and His feet. Thank You for a Bible I can trust. Settle my mind on it as I go to sleep. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Pray as Jesus taught us
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Amen.
Blessing
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
