Evening Prayer for February 4

About 2–3 minutes · 9 Scripture passages (KJV)

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

God’s Word

They talk to the grief of those whom thou hast wounded.

Today’s takeaway: When a fellow believer stumbles, restore them gently instead of adding to their pain.

I was but a little displeased, and they helped forward the affliction.

Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.

He which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.

Comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.

Let us not … judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother’s way.

We … that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves.

Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth

Let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.

Before you pray

Did you add to someone's hurt today, or help carry it?

Prayer

Father, forgive me if I added to anyone's pain today with careless words. When someone is caught in a fault, help me restore them gently, remembering my own weakness. Let me comfort the feeble, support the weak, and be patient with everyone. Make me a person who bears burdens, not one who adds to them. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray as Jesus taught us

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Amen.

Blessing

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
