Evening Prayer for February 18

About 2–3 minutes · 12 Scripture passages (KJV)

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

God’s Word

Adam … begat a son in his own likeness

Today’s takeaway: By nature we are sinners, but in Christ grace is stronger than sin.

Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean?

Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.

Dead in trespasses and sins

By nature the children of wrath, even as others.

I am carnal, sold under sin. For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.

I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing

By one man sin entered into the world

By one man’s disobedience many were made sinners

If through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.

The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

Thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Before you pray

Where did you see your old nature at work today?

Prayer

Father, Adam's children bear his likeness, and I bear it too. Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? I was dead in sins and by nature a child of disobedience. I do what I do not want to do. Thank You that in Christ I am made alive, and one day I will be free of this struggle entirely. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray as Jesus taught us

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Amen.

Blessing

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
