Evening Prayer for February 1

About 2–3 minutes · 7 Scripture passages (KJV)

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

God’s Word

THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.

Today’s takeaway: Tonight rest in Christ's righteousness, not your own, because He is your covering.

We are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags

I will go in the strength of the Lord GOD: I will make mention of thy righteousness, even of thine only.

I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.

Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him

To her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.

I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: … that I may win Christ, And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith

Before you pray

Where did you rely on your own goodness today instead of Christ's?

Prayer

LORD, You are my righteousness. My own righteousness is like filthy rags, and I stopped pretending otherwise today. I will go in Your strength and speak of Your righteousness only. You have clothed me with the garments of salvation, like the father put the best robe on his returning son. I rest tonight in Your righteousness. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray as Jesus taught us

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Amen.

Blessing

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
