Evening Prayer for December 6
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
God’s Word
The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
Today’s takeaway: Your spirit is willing but your flesh is weak, so rely on Christ's strength.
In the way of thy judgments, O LORD, have we waited for thee; the desire of our soul is to thy name, and to the remembrance of thee. With my soul have I desired thee in the night; yea, with my spirit within me will I seek thee early
I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.
For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
The flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
Our sufficiency is of God
My grace is sufficient for thee
Before you pray
What battle between the flesh and the Spirit did you face today?
Prayer
Father, my spirit is willing, but my flesh is weak. I delight in Your law in my inner self, but I see another law at war in my members. The flesh wars against the Spirit. Yet I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. My sufficiency is from You. Your grace is sufficient for me. With my soul I desire You in the night. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Pray as Jesus taught us
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Amen.
Blessing
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
