Evening Prayer for December 17
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
God’s Word
Have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
Today’s takeaway: Guard your friendships and habits, because a little sin spreads like leaven.
Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.
Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump? Purge out therefore the old leaven
I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators: Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must … needs go out of the world. But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.
That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world
In a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
Before you pray
Is there any influence in your life that is pulling you away from God?
Prayer
Holy Father, bad company corrupts good character, and a little leaven leavens the whole lump. Show me tonight if there is an influence in my life that is pulling me away from You. Give me wisdom about it. Make me a vessel of honor, clean and useful to You, shining in a crooked world. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Pray as Jesus taught us
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Amen.
Blessing
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
