Evening Prayer for August 20
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
God’s Word
If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.
Today’s takeaway: When you feel faint, God gives power to the weak, and Jesus understands your sorrow.
He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.
He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him
The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee
I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none.
Every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, … Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way
So also Christ
Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him
Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows
Before you pray
Where did you feel faint today, and what did God give you?
Prayer
Father, when I faint in the day of trouble, my strength is small. But You give power to the faint. Your grace is sufficient for me, and Your strength is made perfect in weakness. When I call on You, You will answer and be with me in trouble. Christ learned obedience through suffering, and He carried my griefs. Underneath me are the everlasting arms. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Pray as Jesus taught us
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Amen.
Blessing
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
