Evening Prayer for August 17
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
God’s Word
As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth. For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more.
Today’s takeaway: Life is as brief as grass, so ask God to teach you to use your days wisely.
So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.
What shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
Surely the people is grass. The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.
The world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.
Use this world, as not abusing it: for the fashion of this world passeth away.
Let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
Before you pray
How did you spend today, and what would you change tomorrow?
Prayer
Father, my days are like grass and like a flower of the field. Teach me to number my days so that I may apply my heart to wisdom. What would it profit me to gain the whole world and lose my soul? The world passes away, but whoever does Your will abides forever. Now is the accepted time. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Pray as Jesus taught us
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Amen.
Blessing
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
