Evening Prayer for April 23

About 2–3 minutes · 8 Scripture passages (KJV)

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

God’s Word

All we like sheep have gone astray

Today’s takeaway: Like a lost sheep you wandered, but the Good Shepherd came looking for you.

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, … They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable

Ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.

I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek thy servant; for I do not forget thy commandments.

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?

Before you pray

In what way did you wander today, and will you let the Shepherd bring you back?

Prayer

Good Shepherd, all of us like sheep have gone astray, and I did too today. If I say I have no sin, I deceive myself. Seek Your servant. You leave the ninety-nine to find the one that is lost, and You carry it home. I return tonight to the Shepherd and Guardian of my soul. Restore my soul, and lead me in paths of righteousness. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray as Jesus taught us

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Amen.

Blessing

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
