Morning Prayer for September 9
My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.
God’s Word
He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away.
Today’s takeaway: God fills the hungry and humble, but sends away those who think they need nothing.
Thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; … As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue faileth for thirst, I the LORD will hear them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them.
I am the LORD thy God, … open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.
Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.
I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
Prayer
Father, You fill the hungry with good things and send the rich away empty. Keep me from thinking I am rich and need nothing. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. You tell me to open my mouth wide, and You will fill it. Why spend my strength on what does not satisfy? Jesus is the bread of life. Feed me today. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Pray as Jesus taught us
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Amen.
Blessing
The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
