Morning Prayer for January 1

About 2–3 minutes · 6 Scripture passages (KJV)

My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.

God’s Word

This one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, … I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Today’s takeaway: Start the new year by leaving the past behind and running your race with eyes on Jesus.

Father, I will that they … whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me

I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.

He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ

Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.

Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus

Prayer

Father, on the first morning of the year I want to do one thing: forget what lies behind and press toward the prize of Your high calling in Christ Jesus. Some of last year I would rather not carry. You began a good work in me, and You will finish it. Help me lay aside every weight today and run with my eyes on Jesus. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray as Jesus taught us

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Amen.

Blessing

The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
