Evening Prayer for January 1
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
God’s Word
The LORD, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee
Today’s takeaway: As the first day of the year ends, rest in knowing God goes before you and holds you.
If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence.
O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.
The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand.
I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand. Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.
I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Before you pray
Where did you see God going ahead of you on this first day of the year?
Prayer
LORD, You went before me today, and You will be with me tonight. I did not want to go anywhere without Your presence, and You did not leave me. Order my steps tomorrow. Nothing in all creation can separate me from Your love in Christ. I close the first day of the year held by Your right hand. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Pray as Jesus taught us
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Amen.
Blessing
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
