Evening Prayer for October 4
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
God’s Word
There are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
Today’s takeaway: Every believer has a part in Christ's body, so care for one another with a single heart.
There fell some of Manasseh to David
And they helped David against the band of the rovers: for they were all mighty men of valour
The manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
Of the children of Issachar, which were men that had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do
To one is given by the Spirit … the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit
Of Zebulun, such as went forth to battle, expert in war, with all instruments of war, fifty thousand, which could keep rank: they were not of double heart.
A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
There should be no schism in the body; but … the members should have the same care one for another. And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.
One Lord, one faith, one baptism
Before you pray
How can you use your gift to help the body of Christ?
Prayer
Lord, men from many tribes came to help David, each bringing something different. Issachar understood the times, and Zebulun kept rank with an undivided heart. The Spirit gives each of us a gift for the good of all. Give me an undivided heart tonight, and help me care for the people in my church as members of one body. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Pray as Jesus taught us
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Amen.
Blessing
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
