Evening Prayer for October 23
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
God’s Word
It is the spirit that quickeneth
Today’s takeaway: The Spirit gives new life, so reckon yourself alive to God through Jesus.
The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.
That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost
If any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God
Reckon ye … yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Before you pray
Did you lean on the flesh today, or on the Spirit?
Prayer
Father, it is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. You saved me by the renewing of the Holy Spirit. Christ lives in me, and the life I now live, I live by faith in the Son of God. Help me count myself dead to sin and alive to You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Pray as Jesus taught us
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Amen.
Blessing
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
