Evening Prayer for November 8
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
God’s Word
The children of Israel pitched before them like two little flocks of kids; but the Syrians filled the country. … Thus saith the LORD, Because the Syrians have said, The LORD is God of the hills, but he is not God of the valleys, therefore will I deliver all this great multitude into thine hand, and ye shall know that I am the LORD. And they pitched one over against the other seven days. And so it was, that in the seventh day the battle was joined: and the children of Israel slew of the Syrians an hundred thousand footmen in one day.
Today’s takeaway: God is Lord of the valleys as well as the hills, and He is greater than any enemy.
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
They shall fight against thee; but they shall not prevail against thee; for I am with thee, saith the LORD, to deliver thee.
Before you pray
What enemy looks bigger than your God tonight?
Prayer
LORD, Israel camped like two little flocks of goats while the Syrians filled the country, yet You gave them victory, so that everyone would know You are the LORD. Greater is He who is in me than he who is in the world. Do not let me be afraid or dismayed. They may fight against me, but they will not prevail, for You are with me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Pray as Jesus taught us
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Amen.
Blessing
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
