Evening Prayer for November 5
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
God’s Word
The fashion of this world passeth away.
Today’s takeaway: This world is passing away, so ask God to teach you how short your days are.
All the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty and nine years: and he died.
Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted: But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away. For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.
For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
The world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
LORD, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is; that I may know how frail I am.
When they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
Before you pray
How are you using the short time God has given you?
Prayer
LORD, the fashion of this world passes away. Even Methuselah's many years came to an end. My life is a vapor. Make me know my end and the measure of my days, so I know how frail I am. The world passes away, but whoever does Your will abides forever. I am not in darkness, so that day will not surprise me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Pray as Jesus taught us
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Amen.
Blessing
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
