Evening Prayer for November 20

About 2–3 minutes · 8 Scripture passages (KJV)

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

God’s Word

One God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus

Today’s takeaway: Jesus is the one Mediator who brings you into a better covenant, where your sins are forgotten.

Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD

A mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one.

We have sinned with our fathers, we have committed iniquity, we have done wickedly. Our fathers understood not thy wonders in Egypt; they remembered not the multitude of thy mercies

Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach, to turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them.

Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus; Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house.

He is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.

I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

Before you pray

How has Christ stood between you and what you deserved?

Prayer

Holy God, Israel sinned, and You would have destroyed them if Moses had not stood in the breach. There is one mediator between You and me, the man Christ Jesus. He is the mediator of a better covenant, built on better promises. Because of Him, You are merciful to my unrighteousness and remember my sins no more. I rest in Him tonight. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray as Jesus taught us

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Amen.

Blessing

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
