Evening Prayer for May 28
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
God’s Word
So run, that ye may obtain.
Today’s takeaway: Lay aside whatever slows you down, and keep running your race with your eyes on Jesus.
The slothful man saith, There is a lion without
Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith
Let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
I press toward the mark
I … so run, not as uncertainly; … I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, … I myself should be a castaway.
The fashion of this world passeth away.
Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent
Gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ
Before you pray
What weight slowed you down today that you could lay aside?
Prayer
Lord, the lazy man says there is a lion outside and stays in bed. Keep me from excuses. Help me lay aside every weight and the sin that so easily trips me up, and run with endurance, looking to Jesus. I press toward the mark. The fashion of this world is passing away. Tonight I rest, and tomorrow I will run again. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Pray as Jesus taught us
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Amen.
Blessing
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
