Evening Prayer for May 26
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
God’s Word
The city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.
Today’s takeaway: One day God Himself will be your light, and your days of sorrow will be over.
I saw in the way a light from heaven, above the brightness of the sun, shining round about me and them which journeyed with me.
I said, Who art thou, Lord? And he said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest.
Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.
The sun shall be no more thy light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light unto thee: but the LORD shall be unto thee an everlasting light, and thy God thy glory. Thy sun shall no more go down; neither shall thy moon withdraw itself: for the LORD shall be thine everlasting light, and the days of thy mourning shall be ended.
The God of all grace, … hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus
Before you pray
What glimpse of God's glory did you catch today?
Prayer
God of all grace, You have called me to Your eternal glory in Christ. Paul saw a light brighter than the noonday sun, and it was Jesus. On the mountain His face shone like the sun. One day the sun will no longer be my light, because You will be my everlasting light, and mourning will end. Let that glory settle my heart tonight. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Pray as Jesus taught us
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Amen.
Blessing
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
