Evening Prayer for May 24

About 2–3 minutes · 8 Scripture passages (KJV)

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

God’s Word

I will go and return to my place, till they acknowledge their offence, and seek my face

Today’s takeaway: If sin has put distance between you and God, turn back, and He will run to meet you.

Your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you

My beloved had withdrawn himself, and was gone: … I sought him, but I could not find him; I called him, but he gave me no answer.

I hid me, and was wroth, and he went on frowardly in the way of his heart. I have seen his ways, and will heal him

Hast thou not procured this unto thyself, in that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, when he led thee by the way?

He arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.

I will heal their backsliding, I will love them freely: for mine anger is turned away

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Before you pray

Is there any sin that has made God feel far away lately?

Prayer

Father, sometimes You feel far away, and sometimes I have caused the distance by my own choices. Tonight I acknowledge my offense and seek Your face. The prodigal was still a long way off when his father saw him and ran to him. You heal backsliding and love freely. I confess my sins, and You are faithful and just to forgive me. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray as Jesus taught us

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Amen.

Blessing

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
