Evening Prayer for May 23

About 2–3 minutes · 9 Scripture passages (KJV)

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

God’s Word

On that night could not the king sleep

Today’s takeaway: Even a sleepless night is in God's hands, because He rules over all things for your good.

Thou holdest mine eyes waking

Who is like unto the LORD our God, … Who humbleth himself to behold the things that are in heaven, and in the earth!

He doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth

Thy way is in the sea, and thy path in the great waters, and thy footsteps are not known.

Surely the wrath of man shall praise thee: the remainder of wrath shalt thou restrain.

The eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him.

We know that all things work together for good to them that love God

Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

Before you pray

If you cannot sleep tonight, what could you pray about instead of worrying?

Prayer

LORD, on the night the king could not sleep, You were working to save Your people. If I lie awake tonight, remind me that You are working too, even when I cannot see Your footsteps. I give You the thing that would keep me awake. All things work together for good for those who love You. Let me sleep. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray as Jesus taught us

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Amen.

Blessing

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
