Evening Prayer for May 10

About 2–3 minutes · 9 Scripture passages (KJV)

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

God’s Word

Vanity of vanities; all is vanity.

Today’s takeaway: Everything here passes away, but Jesus stays the same, and your hope is in Him.

We spend our years as a tale that is told. The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.

If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.

Here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come.

I am the LORD, I change not

Our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.

The creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope

Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.

Before you pray

What changed today, and what about God did not?

Prayer

LORD, so much of what I chased today was vanity. My years pass like a story that is told. But You do not change. Tonight I want to let go of what does not last and hold on to You. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. I rest in You. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray as Jesus taught us

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Amen.

Blessing

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
