Evening Prayer for March 28

About 2–3 minutes · 8 Scripture passages (KJV)

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

God’s Word

Our friend Lazarus sleepeth

Today’s takeaway: Because Jesus rose, believers who die are only asleep, and God will bring them with Him.

I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

If the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised: And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins. Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished.

But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.

It came to pass, when all the people were clean passed over Jordan, that the LORD spake unto Joshua, saying, Take you … hence out of the midst of Jordan, out of the place where the priests’ feet stood firm, twelve stones

And these stones shall be for a memorial unto the children of Israel for ever.

This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.

Witnesses chosen before of God, … who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead.

Before you pray

What has the risen Christ done in your life that you want to remember?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, You called death sleep. Because You are risen, I do not grieve like people who have no hope. Israel set up stones to remember what You had done. Tonight I remember specific times You have been faithful to me, and I thank You for each one. Let those memories hold me when I am afraid. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray as Jesus taught us

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Amen.

Blessing

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
