Evening Prayer for March 2

About 2–3 minutes · 7 Scripture passages (KJV)

Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

God’s Word

There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.

Today’s takeaway: God's people will one day rest from all their toil, so wait in hope.

There the wicked cease from troubling; and there the weary be at rest. There the prisoners rest together; they hear not the voice of the oppressor.

Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: … rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.

Our friend Lazarus sleepeth

Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep.

We that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened

Ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body. For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: … But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.

Before you pray

What made you weary today, and have you told the Lord about it yet?

Prayer

Father, there remains a rest for Your people. Tonight I feel the weight of this body and this world, and I groan with all creation, waiting for the full redemption You have promised. For those who belong to You, even death is only sleep, and they rest from their labors. Give me a taste of that rest tonight. I wait for it with patience and hope. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray as Jesus taught us

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Amen.

Blessing

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
